1. Create and verify a Twitter account.
2. Advertise it so people know about it!
3. Use it to promptly let customers know about scams, as well as other helpful security advice.

“By using Twitter to publicise Internet security threats, banks can warn customers instantaneously, without sending them e-mails which could themselves be construed as malicious phishing attempts.”

Some of the changes include,

Warnings that will display when users are about to click scripts that end up spamming their friends list.

&

“Login Approvals,” which, if activated will prompt the user to enter a code sent via SMS if they want to log in to Facebook using a different device than normal, such as an iPhone.

Paul Ducklin of computer security company Sophos said on his blog,

“Watch out for the links you’re likely to come across in email or on social networking sites offering you additional coverage of this newsworthy event,”

“Many of the links you see will be perfectly legitimate links,”

“But at least some are almost certain to be dodgy links, deliberately distributed to trick you into hostile internet territory.”

Mike Lennon, of SecurityWeek added that scammers “typically use very attractive headlines to encourage users to click links and direct them to malware infected web pages.”

Exercise a bit of caution before clicking on links that pop up on your Twitter & Facebook feeds.
